Massive boost for Delhi ahead of Punjab clash, star player set to join the squad
Delhi‘s star batter, Prithvi Shaw, is all set to rejoin the team camp in the Indian T20 League 2022. According to reports, Shaw will be ready for his team’s next game against Punjab after recovering from typhoid, which required hospitalisation. Notably, he missed out on the team’s last three games. He last played against Lucknow on the 1st of May.
In the matches he played, the 22-year-old was in outstanding form. Along with David Warner, he gave the team some great starts in the powerplay. He has so far scored 259 runs at an average of 28.77 and a strike rate of 160 in nine matches. Shaw has also scored two half-centuries this season.
“When they play their next game against the Punjab Kings on Monday evening, Shaw is very likely to be available,” the Times of India quoted a source saying.
“Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw has been discharged from the hospital where he was being treated for a bout of typhoid. Shaw has returned to the team hotel where he is currently recuperating, while being monitored by the DC medical team,” the Delhi team’s report said.
Earlier, team’s head coach Ricky Ponting had hinted that the opener might not be able to recover from the illness in time. He said that Shaw might be ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.
In Shaw’s absence, Delhi has tried Mandeep Singh and Srikar Bharat at the top of the order with David Warner. However, both have struggled to fit in the role. The return of Shaw will undoubtedly benefit the team significantly, as they still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs, provided they win their next two games against Punjab and Mumbai. Delhi is currently seventh in the points standings with six victories in 12 games. However, with so many teams competing for the fourth spot, it won’t be easy for Delhi to advance.
