Star Delhi Capitals (DC) opener, Prithvi Shaw claimed that he does not understand ‘Bazball’, a term that is named for England’s aggressive approach in Test cricket ever since Brendon McCullum has been at the helm. He said that people often give new names after seeing the hard-hitting approach by the batters. This approach was adopted after the appointment of head coach McCullum and captain Ben Stokes, who are known for their positive brand of cricket.

“I don’t understand what they mean when they say Bazball. I assume looking at Mitchell Marsh’s bat that he’s a proper Bazball cricketer. People will come out with new names,” Mumbai-born cricketer shared his thoughts on Bazball while speaking to Cricbuzz.

James Anderson set to make comeback in fourth Test of Ashes 2023

So far, Shaw has played 5 Tests and 6 ODIs for Men in Blue, and he revealed that he uses the strategy ‘see the ball, hit the ball’ while batting. According to him, it doesn’t matter what people say to him. “The way I play is that if I see the ball, I hit the ball. I don’t know what people will call that. Whether they call it baseball, hockey, or whatever they want to call it, at the end of the day, woh apna cricket hai (that’s our sport – cricket),” the star India opener asserted.

Earlier, after England’s loss in the first Test of the Ashes 2023, their ‘Bazball’ approach faced a lot of criticism due to their premature declaration that came in their first innings on Day 1 after playing only 78 overs with a settled Joe Root on the crease. Despite showing an aggressive approach throughout the game, the Three Lions failed to outclass the current World Test champions.

England will lock horns with Australia in the fourth Ashes Test 2023, which will be played at Old Trafford, Manchester from July 19 to 23. The visitors are currently leading the five-match Test series by 2-1. According to The Guardian’s reports, James Anderson is likely to replace injured Ollie Robinson in the playing XI for the Three Lions.
