But, before that, all eyes are set on the auction where some of the big names in Women’s Cricket will be going under the hammer. Notably, each team has a purse of 12 crores and they can pick a maximum of 15-18 players, including 7 overseas players.

5 overseas players are allowed to play in a game, which also includes 1 from an Associate nation. It is worth mentioning that 409 players will be going under the hammer, which includes 246 Indian players and 163 overseas players.

The Women’s T20 League auction has been making the headlines for a while now for many different reasons. For the first time in the history of Indian Cricket, a woman auctioneer will take over the proceeding at the auction.

It hasn’t happened yet in the Indian T20 League but it will be happening in the women’s version of the tournament. In what has come as a major step towards the growth of women’s cricket, the Indian Cricket Board has chosen a women auctioneer, named, Mallika Sagar to conduct the auction.

Who is Mallika Sagar? Here’s everything you need to know:

Mallika Sagar is an art collector from Mumbai. Besides, she also works as a consultant to Modern and Contemporary Indian art.

She is also a partner with the Art India consultant firm. She holds vast experience in conducting auctions with Pundoles (an art gallery) in Mumbai.

With regards to sports, Mallika has also conducted the Pro Kabaddi League players’ auction in 2021. The upcoming Women’s T20 League auction will mark her debut in cricket.

“I’m very honoured to be asked and very proud to be doing it. Hopefully, it would a beginning of a very good relationship,” Mallika told Sports18.

“Hugh was very kind and sent me a very nice e-mail to say if I ever needed help I can always reach out to him. I did watch the previous videos and those were immensely helpful. Because the process is obviously very different from an art auction. So, I definitely relied on Hugh’s expertise and experience from previous years to figure out what best to do,” Mallika said.
