Mitchell Marsh sets the record straight –

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was criticized by fans on social media recently. The reason behind this is a picture that made the rounds where the player is seen with his leg on top of the ODI World Cup trophy.

During a recent interaction with the media Mitchell Marsh said “There was no disrespect meant in the photo at all. I haven’t given it too much thought, I haven’t seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it’s gone off. There’s nothing in that”

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami had commented on the issue and said “This hurt me a lot as well. All countries fight for this trophy, everyone wants to lift the trophy over their head. And I didn’t like that he rested his foot on the trophy. He should not be doing that”

The Australian all-rounder also made his opinion clear on his side playing a T20 series just days after winning the World Cup. Marsh said “Yeah it was pretty outrageous for the guys that had to stay behind. It’s a fine line because we’ve got to respect the fact we’re playing for Australia and it’s a series against India which is always really big.”

The 32-year-old also said “But there’s also the human side of it, the boys have just won a World Cup and probably deserve to celebrate for a while and get home to their families. It’s an interesting one. You’d hope there’s not too many of those series put on after big tournaments again.”

India and Australia will play the 4th T20I on Friday in Raipur. If India win the game they will win the series with a game to spare on Sunday. Suryakumar Yadav and his side had won the first two games to take a 2-0 lead. The third game saw Glenn Maxwell score a masterful century to pull one game back for his side before heading back home.
