Mitchell Marsh tests positive for Covid-19, close contacts isolated
In a huge blow to Delhi, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has tested positive for COVID19. Marsh recently played his first match of the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022 against Bangalore. In that game, he struggled with the bat as he could only muster 14 runs off 24 balls. Notably, ahead of that game, the team’s physio Patrick Farhart tested positive for the deadly disease.
The team was also advised not to have physical contact with the Bangalore players. The players who were in close contact with Farhart were isolated and went through RT-PCR Tests. After the tests, there were reports that an overseas player has tested positive. Later, it was confirmed that it was Mitchell Marsh who delivered positive result. Meanwhile, after Marsh’s positive result, the Delhi players have been asked to quarantine in their individual rooms.
The members of the team will be tested once again on April 18 and 19. It will be interesting to see if any other cases surface in the future. On the other hand, the Board Of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) is reportedly making a plan to ensure no other player tests positive.
Delhi will next play against Punjab on April 20. However, if the game will go ahead or not will depend entirely on the RT-PCR results of other players. If more cases are detected in the camp, the game can be postponed to a further date. Notably, the team owners haven’t said anything on the matter. The BCCI would be hoping that no other player tests positive.
Last year, when the cash-rich league was played in India, several players from different teams were tested positive. This forced the board to postpone the 14th season for an indefinite period. The season was then completed in the United Arab Emirates from mid-September to mid-October.
Talking about the ongoing season, a total of 29 league games have been played so far. Delhi have had a mediocre tournament so far. They have played five games, winning two and losing three.
