The Indian Cricket Board is all set to welcome the 17th season of the world’s biggest cricket league, the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) in March 2024. The retention window for the IPL 2024 has been declared closed on 26 November to prepare for the IPL auction which will be on 19th December in Dubai, a total of 85 players were released ahead of the auction. 

The most number of players were released by Kolkata Knight Riders (12) followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, who released 11 players each. The team franchises have released some of the most expensive players they bought in the previous season of the IPL. 

Harry Brook (13.25 cr), Jofra Archer(8 crore), and Ben Stokes (16.25 cr) became some of the English players who were expensive picks by the teams but were released due to specific concerns like consistent injuries and willingly opting out of the tournament. Sri Lanka’s bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga (10.75 cr) was also released by Royal Challengers Bangalore after missing around half of 2023 due to injury followed by Harshal Patel and KKR’s Shardul Thakur who were bought for 10.75 cr each.
