In the 1st T20 match between Australia and West Indies, the mighty Aussies won the match by 11 runs. As the match headed towards a nail-biting finish, the hosts made a terrific comeback and took the game away from the visitors. West Indies would have surely won the match had the target been a little less than 214 runs. After winning the toss, West Indies elected to bowl first. This gave the Australians a chance to score some runs and put the pressure back on the visitors.

The crowd present at the Blundstone Arena might have enjoyed the entire match but the first half of the Australian batting in particular was extremely interesting. David Warner was on fire as he went on to score 70 runs off just 36 balls 12 boundaries and one six. The other opener, Josh Inglis also played well as he scored 39 runs off 25 balls. Andre Russell was the highest wicket-taker for West Indies after he took three wickets.

As the West Indies team came down to chase a huge target of 214 runs, the openers did a great job of giving the team a good start. Brandon King and Johnson Charles scored 53 runs and 42 runs, respectively. The only reason why they lost is because of their middle order’s collapse. However, Jason Holder tried to revive the damage done by the middle order but failed to take his team beyond the victory line. It was Adam Zampa’s (3 wickets) efforts that helped the visitors take early wickets and put pressure on the batters. For a marvellous batting effort, Davis Warner was given the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

‘Feel great and refreshed, I’m pumped’ – David Warner elated about his performance

David Warner scored a fabulous 70 runs off 36 balls in the 1st T20 match against West Indies. The moment he came to bat, it looked like he would thrash the bowlers and he did that. He hit 12 boundaries and one six in his spectacular innings for Australia. During the post-match presentation, Warner seemed to be quite confident of his batting and his current form. Moreover, he also expressed his desire to play in the upcoming t20 World Cup 2024.

Warner, at the post-match presentation, said, “Pleasing to get the win on the board. Was a nice wicket to bat on and you have to make the most of it. Feel great and refreshed, I’m pumped. I want to play the T20 World Cup and it’s a good journey we’ve got going for the next 6 months. Pretty much the same squad going to New Zealand so it’s important we win there as well.”
