In what comes as breaking news, the Indian T20 League 2022 will not be MS Dhoni‘s last year with the Chennai team. The keeper-batter has confirmed that he will be a part of the team in the 2023 season as well. The 40-year-old is anticipated to continue leading the team as well.

Chennai is currently playing their last game of the 2022 season against Rajasthan. At the toss, Dhoni was asked if he will play for the team next year as well, to which he responded, “Definitely”. Dhoni explained his decision, saying it would be unfair on his supporters in Chennai if he did not play in front of them. “Definitely, because it will be unfair to not to say thank you to Chennai. Won’t be nice to do that to CSK fans,” he said.

“And also, hopefully, next year there will be an opportunity where the teams will be travelling so it will be like thank you to all the different places where we will be playing games at different venues,” he added.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will also stay with the Chennai team, despite media reports of a rift between the all-rounder and the franchise. Chennai had a disastrous start to the season under Jadeja, and he ultimately stood down as Chennai’s captain. Under his leadership, the yellow army faced six losses in eight matches and thus, he handed over the reins to Dhoni.

Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy this season, the defending champions have won two of their five games. They are currently playing their last game of the league stage against Rajasthan. MS Dhoni won the toss and decide to bat first. Despite losing Ruturaj Gaikwad early on, Moeen Ali gave them a perfect start. The all-rounder reached his half-century within the powerplay itself.

Chennai have not had the best season this time around. They have won four out of their 13 games and stand ninth on the points table. They would want to end their campaign on a winning note.
