‘Mumbai does a great service to Bangalore’ Twitter goes berserk as Mumbai denies Delhi a spot in the playoffs
Mumbai and Delhi locked horns in the 69th game of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The five-time winners won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mumbai had a great start as David Warner (5) was caught at the short third man on the last ball of the third over. In the next over, Mitchell Marsh (0) was caught at slips by skipper Rohit Sharma off Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah took his second wicket in the last over of the powerplay. He bowled a vicious bouncer to Prithvi Shaw (24) who was caught behind by Ishan Kishan. Three overs later, Kishan took a sharp catch of Sarfaraz Khan (10) as the latter was trying to hit a late cut of Mayank Markande. At 50/4, skipper Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell stitched a partnership of 75 runs. Pant (39) was caught behind by Kishan off Ramandeep Singh.
In the penultimate over of the innings, Bumrah took his third by disturbing the furniture behind Powell (43). Shradul Thakur (4) was caught by Tim David off Singh and the team ended with 159/7 in the must-win game. In reply, the Rohit Sharma-led side had a poor start as their skipper scored two runs from 13 balls. He was caught at mid-on by Thakur off Anrich Nortje in the last over of the powerplay.
Kishan (48) and Dewald Brewis stitched a partnership of 51 runs before the former was caught at long-on by Warner off Kuldeep Yadav. Yadav took the wicket in the 12th over. He could have had the wicket of Brewis in the same over but was dropped by skipper Pant. The South African couldn’t make the most of the reprieve as he chopped on to the stumps facing Thakur in he 15th over.
Tim David came and stitched a match-winning partnership of 50 runs with Tilak Varma. David scored 34 off 11 before he was caught at extra cover by Shaw off Thakur. Varma (21) was caught behind by Pant off Nortje but the team got over the line with five wickets in hand. With this win, they have helped Bangalore reach the playoffs.

Mumbai win match and do great service to RCB who are now in the play-offs. For Delhi, it became a tragedy of errors. Despite posting a modest sor fought hard, but made too many blunders in the field biggest being Pant spurning DRS review against Tim David — and paid a heavy price
