The Asia Cup 2023 has started on a fantastic note for Pakistan. Opting to bat first in their own backyard, Pakistan managed to post a mammoth total of 342 runs on the board. It was not all easy for Pakistan, as they were reduced to 25/2 after 6.1 overs. From there, Babar Azam anchored the innings and scored a mammoth hundred with the help of Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan from the other end.

For the third wicket, the duo of Babar and Rizwan scored 86 runs and revived the innings for Pakistan. It was Rizwan who was dominant in the partnership by scoring runs at a brisk rate. On a good wicket in Multan, Nepal did show promises in bowling, but could not thrive when put under pressure. But it was the dismissal of Rizwan which was responsible for memes and trolls on social media.

Bizarre dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan

In the 24th over of the match, Sandeep Lamichhane bowled a classical leg spin delivery. Rizwan pushed the ball towards the cover region and tried to steal a single. Dipendra Singh, who was the fielder, hit a direct throw at the stumps. Rizwan, who was close to the impact of the ball, feared that the ball might hit him and tried to move away from the point of impact

To escape the point of impact, Rizwan evaded the crease, which led to funny banter among fans on the internet. In the process, Rizwan lost his wicket as well. The direct hit from Singh was fruitful as a dangerous-looking partnership was broken. Rizwan, who was batting so well, found one of the most bizarre ways to get himself dismissed.

Rizwan’s 44(50) helped Pakistan to build their innings. The dismissal gave way to a mammoth partnership between Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed, both of whom registered a hundred each. While Azam scored 151(131), Ahmed scored 109(71). The 214-run stand for the fifth wicket between the two powered Pakistan to a total of 342 runs in their 50 overs.
