Reigning Olympic gold medalist, Neeraj Chopra has created history once again. Chopra broke all the records to win the gold medal in the World Athletics Championships. The 25-year-old became the first Indian to win the gold medal.

This is yet another landmark moment in the history of Indian athletics. The Gold Medal won by Chopra will be a shot in the arm with the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris around the corner. The effort from Neeraj Chopra is also commendable as it has now put the focus on Indian athletes once again.

Neeraj Chopra’s creates history –

Indian fans were up early as they were getting ready to watch Neeraj Chopra. The 25-year-old had already qualified for the finals with a throw of 88.77 in his 1st attempt. This throw also saw Neeraj Chopra qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The final, which was contested in the early hours of August 28, 2023, saw Chopra decimate his competition. After a foul throw on his first attempt, Chopra threw 88.17 meters on his 2nd attempt. The rest of the throws from the current Olympic champion were well past the 80-meter mark. None of the throws though came close to the 88.17 mark that was set in his second attempt.

India – Pakistan rivalry came early with Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan challenging Neeraj Chopra. The Pakistani athlete threw a distance of 87.82 in his 3rd attempt, which was below the 88.17 meters thrown by Neeraj Chopra. Nadeem grabbed the silver medal for Pakistan. The bronze medal went to Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic with a throw of 86.67 meters.

Two more Indians were in the fray in Kishore Jena and DP Manu. The 5th place went to Kishore Jena, who threw at 84.77 meters. DP Manu finished 6th with a throw of 84.14 meters in his last attempt.

The Gold Medal in the Javelin event won by Neeraj Chopra was the only medal won by India. There were 28 athletes in the Indian contingent to take part in the 2023 World Athletics Champions in Budapest in Hungary. The track and field events saw disappointing results. With none of the other athletes getting a medal, it surely doesn’t augur well for the Indian contingent for the 2024 Olympic Games.
