New Zealand has announced its provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup 2023. They named their provisional squad for the 2023 World Cup with a heartwarming video featuring the families of the cricketers in the squad. Kane Williamson returns to lead the Blackcaps in World Cup 2023 Further changes can be made up until 28 September.

However, any replacements after September 28 will need approval from the Cricket Governing Body. Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra have been surprise additions to the squad. Meanwhile, Finn Allen and backup wicket-keeper Tim Seifert have been excluded from the 15-man squad. The Kiwis will hope to win the trophy in India.

Tim Seifert and Adam Milne miss out

The team management selected Tom Latham as the only wicketkeeper in the squad, leaving young top-order batsman Finn Allen and backup wicketkeeper Tim Seifert on the outside looking in. Fast bowler, Adam Milne also didn’t make the World Cup roster because of a hamstring injury he recently sustained while on New Zealand’s tour of England. They are currently touring England for a four-match ODI series that stands at 1-1.

Williamson has been on a challenging journey to recovery after suffering a significant injury. In April 2023, while playing for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He underwent surgery in New Zealand following the injury and embarked on a rigorous rehabilitation process. Despite his rehab, he stated in an interview that his chances of participating in the World Cup 2023 in India remained uncertain due to the severity of his injury.

Cricket New Zealand created a heart-touching video as part of the squad announcement in which the members of the squad are presented by their “number 1 fans”—their partners, kids, parents, and grandparents. These are provisional squads and the teams are allowed to make changes till September 28.
