‘Nobody cares. It’s not our style’ – Sunil Gavaskar lashes out on Pakistan players ‘uncomplimentary’ remarks on Indian players

Former India opener, Sunil Gavaskar has criticized former Pakistani cricketers for making “unfortunate” comments about Indian cricketers, which he thinks is due to the fact that players from Pakistan are unable to play in the Indian T20 League. Over the years, the Indian T20 League has acted as a catalyst in bringing players from other nationalities together, greatly reducing the antagonism among them. Gavaskar did a fantastic job of making his argument clear, but that doesn’t imply the cash-rich league has snuffed out the fire in these players’ bellies or lessened the amount of competition among them.

Gavaskar believes that while the Indian T20 League has helped to close gaps all across the world, there is always an exception. He specifically mentions Pakistan in this regard. Since the cash-rich league’s early seasons, Pakistani cricketers have been prohibited from competing because of political tension between the two countries. According to Gavaskar, this has created some sort of hate.

They should be getting more than the Indian player: Sunil Gavaskar

“When two of the top-ranked teams play against each other, then sparks are bound to fly. However, since the Indian T20 League began, the animosity between players of the two teams has lessened considerably while the intensity hasn’t reduced one bit and that’s how it should be. Sharing the same change room, and hotels and travelling to different venues over a period of six weeks to play has made the players get to know each other better, understand the different cultures and attitudes and approaches to the game,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day.

“While there will always be a bit of banter between players, the angry and sometimes vulgar exchanges are a thing of the past. Today, if there are any such issues, it’s invariably between players who don’t play the Indian T20 League and thus have a bit of resentment towards the Indian players who play against them. Some of them believe that their achievements are such that they should be getting more than the Indian player, who gets millions through the Indian T20 League,” he further wrote.
