Team India reached the finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 under Rohit Sharma but fell at the last hurdle. Now, the former Indian pace bowling legend Zaheer Khan is already looking ahead to the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.

The tournament will give India yet another chance to claim a world title over a decade after winning their last title. Zaheer Khan has claimed that Hardik Pandya should not captain the Indian team for the tournament as the mantle should go to another player.

Zaheer Khan’s pick for T20 World Cup captaincy

Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan has named Rohit Sharma as the skipper for India during the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 45-year-old former Indian pacer made these comments during a chat with CRICBUZZ

Zaheer Khan said “Well, because the T20 World Cup is just around the corner and there is not a lot of time, you have to go in with experience. You will have to give that preference to the experienced guy, and I will not be surprised if they decide to go ahead with Rohit Sharma himself”

The former Indian legend also said “He’s the guy who has been around for a while. He understands handling situations, handling pressure, and all those kinds of aspects. You still have time for all these other names that are on that list to take the mantle forward. It’s just around six months (for the World Cup to begin)”

Most of the players will be taking part in the IPL 2024 season before the 2024 T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya made his move back to Mumbai Indians after his blockbuster trade was confirmed on Sunday.

The former Indian bowler also said “You have a big tournament like the IPL in between, which will give them enough time to prepare. So, it’s either going to be Rohit Sharma or, depending on how Hardik goes about his rehab, his comeback. The challenge is that he’s not going to be playing that many games,”

Earlier today it was confirmed that Rahul Dravid is set to continue as the coach of the Indian Cricket Team. This ends all the speculation that was in place for the last few weeks. The 50-year-old was lauded for helping India reach the ODI World Cup final with meticulous planning along with Rohit Sharma. The Indian fans will hope both the skipper and coach duo can inspire India one more time to win the T20 World Cup next year.
