The Australian Open has had its fair share of surprises in the tournament already, where a lot of great Tennis players have been eliminated. The likes of Carlos Alcaraz facing a loss against Alexander Zverev was one of the shocking moments we have already discovered in the tournament. There have also been great tennis players like Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios also exiting out of the tournament in the most shocking fashion already. These are some of the upsets we never see a lot in the sport of Tennis and we definitely do not enjoy our favourite players losing the tournament at all.
The one man who was the favourite to win the Australian Open was none other than world number one Serbian legend Novak Djokovic. He has already achieved a lot in the game by winning 24 grand slams and was eyeing his 25th in this edition as well. The rise of Djokovic has been a story which has already become viral all over the world. The 36-year-old was still looking good in the tournament, but unfortunately will not be winning another Grand Slam after losing to Italian upcoming superstar Jannick Sinner in the semi-finals.
The rare defeat of a champion
Djokovic was clearly the favourite to win this match against the fourth-seeded player Jannick Sinner who has not won a single grand Slam in his career so far. Djoko was surprised straight away in the first two sets where he lost to Sinner by big margins of 1-6 and 2-6. This clearly put him under pressure in the game. The third set still showed the prowess and talent of the Serbian as he won the set in a gruelling tiebreaker, but that was all that he could achieve as Sinner took the match in the following set and reached his first Grand Slam final.
This is clearly one of the rare moments in Tennis where you need one bad game to ruin your chances of winning a major title. Djokovic will still be remembered as one of the best in the business but will be disappointed in not achieving that 25th Grand Slam victory. These are the games where as a tennis player, you never expect will hit you one day. On the positive side, it is still a great moment for Sinner who will be confident in the upcoming final after achieving this big victory against the modern-time great of tennis right now.
