‘One step ahead of BAZBALL’ – Harry Brook hits a magnificent century in 2nd Test against New Zealand
Harry Brook, a young England batter, completed his fourth Test century in only his sixth Test match as England recovered quickly after falling to 21 for 3 on Day 1 of the second Test against New Zealand in Wellington on Friday (February 24).
Brook came to the middle in the seventh over of the match, joining former captain Joe Root in the middle after New Zealand skipper Tim Southee had dismissed opener Ben Duckett for nine runs. Brook took the attack to the New Zealand bowlers in style, finishing his 50 in the innings with 10 boundaries in 51 balls.
Root, who was dismissed in the first Test against New Zealand after attempting two reverse scoops, decided to play the anchor role to support Brook. Off New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, the young batter smashed his first six of the innings.
After falling short of a century in the first innings of the first Test, Brook, who had three centuries in three Tests against Pakistan last year, completed his fourth century off 107 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. Root, on the other hand, batted with caution, reaching his fifty off 122 balls with only two fours.
The two have continued to bat brilliantly and have managed to get the team total to 315/3 in 65 overs before rain interrupted the proceedings. While Root (101 runs in 182 balls) has completed his century, Brook has scored 184 runs in just 169 balls, including 24 boundaries and five sixes. With this knock, the 24-year-old has raised his average in the longest format of cricket to over 100.
Earlier, New Zealand captain Tim Southee won the toss and combined with Matt Henry to have England 21-3 in the seventh over on a greenish pitch. Henry took the first two wickets, with Southee taking the third. Since then, they have failed to take a wicket. In the meantime, Twitter was elated with Harry Brook’s century in the match.
