Reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has done India proud once again. The 25-year-old from Haryana has confirmed his ticket for the biggest event of 2024. Neeraj Chopra has qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics which is to be held in Paris.

Neeraj Chopra is currently taking part in the World Athletic Championships which is being held at Budapest, Hungary. Chopra won the gold medal in the Javelin throwing event during the Tokyo Games which was held in 2021. This was India’s first-ever gold medal in athletics.

Neeraj Chopra qualifies with his first throw 

It was a stacked field as Neeraj Chopra came out for the Javelin competition. In his very first attempt, Chopra threw the javelin at the distance of 88.77 meters. This throw was way past the benchmark which was needed for Olympic qualification.

The monumental effort by Neeraj Chopra meant double delight for the Indian fans. Not only did Chopra qualify for the finals of the event, but also for the 2024 mega event in Paris. The throw from Neeraj Chopra also will have the attention of his competitors as the reigning Olympic champion has peaked at the right time.

Neeraj Chopra made history on 7th August 2021. With a throw of 87.58 meters in his 2nd attempt Neeraj Chopra stunned the world. Chopra who is with the Indian army was beyond the reach of his competitors.

None of the other 11 competitors in the final event could go past the benchmark set by the then 23-year-old. The next best was 86.67 meters thrown by Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic.

It was a proud moment for India as Neeraj Chopra stood atop the podium in the process becoming India’s first ever Gold Medal winner in athletics. The Indian contingent will pin all its hopes on Neeraj Chopra to do a repeat of 2021.

The Paris Games may be a year away, but Neeraj Chopra has certainly thrown down the gauntlet. The hopes of a billion Indians will be pinned on the 25-year-old once again when he takes the field in 2024 in Paris.
