‘Overrated buy’ – Fans unimpressed as Lucknow shells out millions to sign Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran has been sold at a whopping amount of 16 crores in Lucknow. The left-hander was registered in the auction at a base price of two crores. Last year, he was part of the Hyderabad side after being signed for an amount of 10.75 crores. Last month, he was released by the 2016 winners. In the ongoing player auction, the wicketkeeper batter attracted interest from different teams.

The bidding war was started by teams such as Chennai and Rajasthan. Notably, both teams were desperate for his services so they took the war to 3.4 crores in no time. At this stage, Delhi entered with a bid of 20 lakhs, meaning the bid reached 3.6 crores. From this point, the Yellow brigade pulled and was replaced by Delhi. Delhi and Rajasthan carried the war and took it to 7.3 crores.

At this point, Lucknow entered the bidding and replaced Rajasthan in the contest. On the other hand, the 2020 finalists were hellbent on getting the services of the Trinidadian. However, after fighting hard, Lucknow managed to nab the services of the former West Indies U19 player. Now, he has become the fourth costliest player in the ongoing auction.

Notably, the Trinbago Knight Riders player in the CPL has played for three teams before joining Lucknow. In 2017, he was part of the Mumbai squad that won the title. A few years later, he was signed by Punjab and he continued to play for a few seasons. Early this year, Hyderabad signed in the mega auction. After being signed by Lucknow, this will be his fourth team in his Indian T20 League career. He has played 47 games and has 912 runs to his name.
