‘Paisa ho to kya kuchh nahi ho sakta’ – Twitter reacts as MI offer full-time contract to Jofra Archer following ongoing tussle with ECB

English fast bowler Jofra Archer, who had to cut short his stint with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL due to an elbow issue, might still have a future with the franchise. According to a report by dailymail.co.uk, MI is considering offering Archer a multi-million-pound contract on a year-round basis. This would require England’s permission for Archer to participate in international cricket while under the MI contract.

The MI family consists of five franchises across various leagues, including one in the World Premier League (WPL). Currently, Archer represents MI-owned franchises in the IPL and SA20 leagues. However, if he signs a year-long deal with MI, he could potentially feature in all four leagues associated with the franchise.

While there has been no official update on this matter, it remains to be seen whether Archer will agree to a full-time deal with MI. The talented right-arm pacer has had limited game time in the past couple of years. He made a comeback in the SA20 earlier this year but has only played 11 matches since then.

Although Archer had returned home from the ongoing IPL due to his elbow problem, he has recovered and is now in England for rehabilitation ahead of the upcoming Ashes series. It’s worth noting that Archer hasn’t played Test cricket since February 2021.

During the IPL 2022 mega-auction, MI purchased Archer for a substantial sum of Rs 8 crore, despite being aware of his unavailability for that season. Unfortunately, he could only feature in five matches of IPL 2023 before his departure.

Additionally, the dailymail.co.uk report mentions that MI franchises have also shown interest in securing a year-long contract with English batsman Alex Hales. Hales recently made a comeback to international cricket during the 2022 T20 World Cup.

While the speculation of a long-term contract between Jofra Archer and the Mumbai Indians exists, further updates are awaited regarding his decision. MI’s interest in retaining Archer’s services highlights their confidence in his abilities, despite his recent injury setbacks.
