Former India and Pakistan cricketers, Virender Sehwag and Shoaib Akhtar respectively were seen wearing Kandura, UAE’s traditional dress. During the ongoing final of the International League T20 (ILT20) 2024 between MI Emirates and Dubai Capitals, the visitors were asked to bat first. The Capitals, after deciding to bowl first, were made to play by the likes of Muhammad Waseem and Kusal Perera.

The pair put together 77 runs in just 6.4 overs. While the UAE opener, Waseem scored 43 off 24 balls including three sixes and as many fours, the Sri Lanka international hit 38 off 26 balls including six fours. After their wickets, the Capitals have managed to claw back in the game. West Indies internationals, Andre Fletcher and Nicholas Pooran struggled a bit. However, the former has hit a few boundaries in the 16th over at the time of writing.

With this, the team has reached 153/2 in 16.2 overs at the time of writing. Meanwhile, ahead of the game, the likes of Sehwag and Akhtar, who have been working as broadcasters in the tournament, were seen wearing the traditional dress of the UAE.

Virender Sehwag and Shoaib Akhtar had a fun conversation last month

Since their playing days, both players have been friends. In a video uploaded by the former speedster, they can be seen having a banter.

“Hamaray pyaray Viru bhai @virendersehwag yeh batatay huay k mera lamba run up ko kitna intezar kerwata tha. And he feels it was a big distraction,” Akhtar posted on ‘X’.

During their conversation, Sehwag said “I would keep looking down, knowing that it would take 10-15 second for him to finish his run-up”.

Akhtar then asked Sehwag if his long run-up distracted him?

To which Sehwag replied by saying, “A lot of thoughts would run in mind. Will he hit my toes or a beamer on my head? He will hit somewhere.”
