The event’s broadcasters, Star Sports and Jio Cinema, earned 4,700 crores INR in advertising revenue. Franchises earned around 1,450 crores INR, while the Indian Cricket Board received approximately 430 crores INR. According to a recent source, the advertising income for the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) increased significantly to 10,120 crores INR.

The Indian Cricket Board, franchise owners, and broadcasters received 65% of the money directly, while the rest was received indirectly. Furthermore, according to a search by consulting firm Red Seer, fantasy sports platforms made 2,800 crore INR during the IPL season. When the matches were live, around 61 million players played fantasy games on the platforms.

Ujjwal Chaudhry, a partner at Redseer, commented on the IPL industry overview, saying, “The top 3 platforms captured ~96% of the market share during the IPL 2023, and had an average revenue of INR 458 per user for the season. The excitement of IPL also trickled into non-IPL sporting events during the season, contributing to ~13% of the revenue.”

When analyzing average gross gaming revenue (GGR), partner name discovers that GGR throughout the week was 1.3x higher than on weekends and peaked during the final match. Due to many matches on the same day, the Mega Tables, which are the aggregate of all the highest price pool tables in every match across all platforms, shrank by 30% over weekends.

Mega Tables, on the other hand, have a higher rake rate of 24% and contribute 60% of the income during the season.  According to the strategy consultant’s findings, the IPL 2023 had a strong user acquisition engine, with 35% of new users participating for the first time on the platforms. The flood of new users resulted in an 11% rise in cash users during the season, with an average spend of 127 INR per user for every match.

The IPL has long served as a platform for cricket players from around the world to exhibit their talents. While the Pakistani players are not permitted to compete in this tournament.
