‘PCB must have one captain for all formats’ – Shahid Afridi on playing multiple captains in different formats
Former cricketer and Pakistan cricket board management member Shahid Afridi recently talked about playing a single captain for all three formats and removing the position of vice-captain from the team for efficient management. Ever since Babar Azam stepped down as the captain of the Pakistan team there has been a lot of chaos as the team has consistently played different captains under a new management that was formed after the ODI World Cup 2023.
Pakistan’s team has suffered huge criticism after poor performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 and losing the bilateral series against both Australia and New Zealand. Shahid Afridi believes that the current captain Mohammad Hafeez should be given time to be assessed as a captain in international cricket for Pakistan. He also expressed the desire to see Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub perform as the opening batters in T20 cricket.

“The PCB must have one captain for all formats and there is no need to have a vice-captain. This will give a clear message to all players who are in charge,” said Afridi.
He further added, “If you think Mohammad Hafeez is good then don’t just judge him on one series give him proper time and the same should apply to the captain as well he should be there for three years. The World T20 Cup is going to be a very tough tournament this year with some very strong teams in the hunt for the title. I also don’t think this is the time to make any changes in the format squad.”
“We just need to continue with the same group of players and give them confidence. But yes I would like to see Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub open the batting in T20s,” he concluded.
