‘Permanent captain banado’ – Fans react to 8- wicket win by India vs South Africa in 1st ODI

India vs South Africa

Team India made a fantastic start to the ODI Series as KL Rahul led his side to an 8-wicket win over South Africa. The game was over with India achieving the 117-run target inside the 17th over with 200 balls left to play.

South Africa did not seem to have answers to the Indian pace bowling duo of Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan. The two bowlers snared 9 wickets between them to bowl out the home team for just 116 inside the 28th over.

It was a memorable ODI debut for 22-year-old Sai Sudharsan who scored an unbeaten half-century. Shreyas Iyer continued his fine ODI form to score yet another ODI fifty as India dominated proceedings in Johannesburg.

India begins the ODI series on the right note

The Indian Cricket Team led by KL Rahul swatted aside the South African challenge to win the first ODI by 8 wickets. India achieved the target in 16.4 overs when Tilak Varma took a single to confirm the win for the men in blue.

Andile Phelukwayo was the batting hero for South Africa as he top-scored with 33 runs. Tony De Zorsi played some cracking shots to score 28 but the Indian bowlers just were a class above the opposition batters. Arshdeep Singh picked his best ODI figures to end with 5/37 from his 10 overs. Avesh Khan played the second fiddle to perfection picking 4/27 which also included three maiden overs. The 27-year-old got the key wickets of Aiden Markram and David Miller to break the South Africa middle-order.

After the game KL Rahul while speaking to the host broadcaster said “Good to have the win under the belt. Completely different to what we expected. The plan was to get the spinners into the game. The boys did well. Good chance for them to get a taste of international cricket”

The player of the match went to Arshdeep Singh who was overjoyed. “Loving this moment. Thank God and the Team Management. Personally, it feels good as I am enjoying the role. I would also like to thank the skipper who asked me to come back and take the fifer”
