The player auction for the Indian T20 League 2023 season will be held on December 16 this year. The reports further suggest that the auction will take place in Bengaluru. Over the years, the Garden City has hosted a lot of player auctions. However, in the last couple of years, the city hasn’t hosted the player auction. Meanwhile, the upcoming auction will different from the last one.

The reports further suggest that the purse for each team will be increased this time around. In the previous player auction conducted in February this year, each team got the purse of 90 crores INR. This time around, the purse will be increased by five crores. Also, not to forget that the upcoming auction will be a mini auction unlike last time. In other words, the teams would get to retain more players than last year.

The tournament to return to it’s old home and away format

Since the 2020 season, the teams have played in specific venues to avoid the COVID-19 infections. In 2021, the team played on a few more venues than the 2020 season. However, this resulted in players getting infected with the deadly disease. However, none of the teams played on their home turfs. Early this year, the tournament was played in Maharashtra, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. Now, with the danger of COVID-19 gone, the India Cricket Board reportedly are looking to go back to the home and away format.

“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home-and-away format with all the 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” Indian Cricket Board’s outgoing president Sourav Ganguly had mentioned in his letter to state associations on September 22.

Lucknow is the only team that hasn’t played at their home venue. The 2022 season was their debut season alongside Gujarat. However, the Ahmedabad-based team played the final of the 15th season in front of their home crowd. They are currently the holders of the trophy.
