Player of the Month awards for November is out: Read to know more about it
The ACC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month for November have been awarded to Australian batter Travis Head and Bangladesh’s left-arm spinner Nahida Akter, respectively. Head played a significant role in Australia’s ODI World Cup success, delivering Player of the Match performances (62 & 137) in the semifinal win against South Africa and triumph over India in the final which was held in Ahmedabad.
Head expressed his gratitude, stating that he was fortunate for the contiued faith in him for the World Cup even after his hand was broken. This presented a significant opportunity for him to reciprocate. Additionally, he said that he felt the World Cup marked one of the best performances in his batting career, suggesting that taking a rest before each campaign might be the key.
“I was fortunate that they had faith in me for the World Cup after breaking my hand, so it was a great opportunity for me to pay them back. I felt the World Cup was amongst the best I have ever batted, so maybe having a rest before every campaign is the key,” Head said.
Akter had received the award for her impressive performance in taking wickets during the competitive ODI series, securing victory over Pakistan on home soil last month.
“We have played some amazing cricket in recent months and I am so happy to have contributed to the successes we have tasted as a team. I must thank my captain, coaches and teammates for always believing in me and that has allowed me to play my natural game against quality opponents and perform under pressure,” said Akter.
Opening in Test cricket is a specialist job, don’t see myself doing it: Travis Head
As David Warner approaches retirement, Travis Head, Australia’s ODI World Cup standout, has ruled out taking the opening role in Test cricket. Head considers opening as a specialist position and believes players waiting for a chance should be given the opportunity instead of him, despite his success in ODIs. While Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, suggested an unconventional choice for Warner’s successor, Head thinks the selectors are satisfied with his role in the middle order.
“The guys that have been waiting to get into the team for a while deserve the first crack at it. But the conversations are ongoing with everyone…only one for me is (opening in) the subcontinent. Selectors are happy with me in the middle order. I don’t see myself moving around too much in the future. I think(opening) it’s a specialist job,” Head said on ESPNcricinfo.
