Pros and cons of Hardik Pandya, the new Mumbai Indians captain

Hardik Pandya has been appointed the new captain of MI for IPL 2024. The move from MI Has shocked their core fans, who were the fans of Rohit Sharma more than that of the franchise. While Rohit is a legendary captain in the IPL, one could not look past Hardik as a leader for the future, who has already proven himself as a captain at the IPL level.

Check out the positives and negatives of Hardik as a leader.

Positives

Hardik is a proactive captain and makes decisions based on the observations made in the middle during the play. It is helpful for the side, as it is important to be in the present and make decisions based on reality, rather than simply going behind the preplanned theories. Pandya backs his players, which is very essential. He is also good at communicating what the players want from him.

In Gujarat Titans, Hardik got the best out of players. Hardik possesses the kind of Midas touch MS Dhoni has in getting the best from the players. The likes of Noor Ahmad, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Vijay Shankar, and Mohit Sharma have given their best performance under his leadership. Hardik leads from the front as a player, which does not lead to questions on his spot in the XI.

Negatives

Hardik, at times, gets angry with the players. In some of the games in the IPL 2022, Hardik was extremely angry at some of his players for failing to execute the plans. It is okay to be angry but showing it in front of the world would damage the confidence of the players. Mohammed Shami suffered it in one of the games in the IPL 2022.

Hardik tries to inflict his thoughts on the players, which might not always go in the favor of the eventual result. For instance, Hardik unnecessarily tried to give his opinions to Mohit, who was bowling well in the final over of the IPL final 2023. What followed was the change in momentum, which helped CSK to glory.
