Ranveer Singh opens up on Arsenal’s gloomy days and why he still supported the club
Ranveer Singh is a Bollywood star who is known for his love and passion for sports. He was last seen on-screen playing the character of Indian Legend Kapil Dev in the movie 83. He played his part with great conviction and perfection in the movie.
His passion for sports was evident from the way he portrayed the Indian legend on screen. He has also been the brand ambassador for elite tournaments like Premier League in India. Ranveer is also known as a passionate supporter of the Premier League club Arsenal. According to him, supporting a football club is like a marriage, and due to his club’s off form, he thought of divorcing the same.
Arsenal last won the Premier League title in the 2003-04 season. Since then, Arsenal’s performance has gone downhill only. This has left Ranveer deflated and he thought of changing his team on multiple occasions. However, the star is happy with his team’s performance in the last few games and feels that the team has a great chance of making it to the top four this year.
Notably, Arsenal is at the 4th position in the league table at present with 51 points from 26 matches. This keeps the hope of the Gunners to play in the Champions League next season.
There are several instances that I felt so deflated. I was so shattered at one point that I even considered divorcing Arsenal until my loyalty came in the way. Once you pick a football club, it’s like marriage; you only do it once. You don’t ever think you are going to change or jump ship. But it did cross my mind. That’s how low I got at one point about Arsenal football club and their fortunes in the Premier League,” said Ranveer as quoted by NDTV.
Ranveer Singh also spoke on being the brand ambassador for Premier League in India. “One of the best aspects about this is the cross-pollination of activity. It is a way of exchanging culture and popularizing the sport of football. The ISL and the Premier League work together to build, expand and promote football in India. I think in the next 20 years, you will start seeing more and more individual players, perhaps coming out of India and playing in the English Premier League,” he said.
Commenting on the ever-going argument of who is the Greatest Of All Time between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Ranveer Singh said, “I don’t think there is anything to choose between them. There is no one greatest of all time. There is always the GOAT conversation, and these two are in the conversation, and I think it’s a huge privilege for me and this entire generation to have witnessed their entire career from the very start.”
