According to the reports, Suresh Raina might announce retirement from all formats of the game in the middle of the Indian T20 League. Raina went unsold in the mega auction conducted in February this year. Raina is among the few players who are not featuring in the cash-rich league for the time in the history of the ITL. After going unsold, Raina joined the Hindi commentary panel of the official broadcasters.

Raina was an integral part of the Yellow brigade and was part of the four title-winning campaigns in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. Suresh Raina played 205 Indian T20 League games in his 14-year-old career and amassed 5528 runs. The left-hander announced retirement from international in 2020 and hasn’t played domestic cricket since then. Notably, he pulled out of the league in 2020, citing the COVID19 scare in the team.

Raina played the league last season where he was completely out of sorts with the bat. The former Chennai vice-captain could only muster 160 runs in 12 games. Subsequently, he was released by the franchise ahead of the player retention. Meanwhile, according to the Zee News, it is unlikely that the Muradnagar-born player will be able to prolong his career at the age of 35 and may announce his retirement soon, as early as during mid Indian T20 League.

Meanwhile, Chennai has not got off to a good start in the Indian T20 League. The team has lost both their games so far. They were defeated by Kolkata in the first game, while Lucknow beat them in a high scoring thriller in their second game.
