According to the reports, Virat Kohli will miss the T20I series against Sri Lanka, while Rohit Sharma will be announced as India’s all format skipper. Sharma has been leading the team in T20I since the home series against New Zealand last November. Ahead of the South Africa tour, Sharma was appointed the ODI skipper as well.

However, the 34-year-old missed the entire tour due to a hamstring injury. KL Rahul led the team in ODIs and the team lost the series by 0-3. In the preceding Test series, the number three team lost to the hosts by 1-2. Subsequently, Kohli stepped down from the leadership role. Since then, the post is vacant and Rohit Sharma is likely to take over.

Currently, Rohit is leading the team in the limited-overs against West Indies at home. The Men In Blue clean-swept the West Indies in ODIs for the first time. On February 16, the team carried on with the winning momentum and beat the Keiron Pollard-led side in the first game of the three-match T20I series by six wickets.

Meanwhile, Virat will play the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The first game in Mohali, starting on March 4, will mark his 100th Test of his career. Apart from this, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Jasprit Bumrah will also make their comebacks. Jadeja hasn’t played after the first Test against New Zealand last November due to an injury. Currently, he is quarantining in Lucknow and may become a part of the T20Is if he recovers and return COVID-19 negative result.

Otherwise, the left-hander will play only the Tests against the tourists. Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested ahead of the West Indies series, will also make his comeback in the same series
