Reports: India’s star cricketer Rishabh Pant likely to play domestic cricket

Rishabh Pant

India’s star cricketer, Rishabh Pant, is likely to make his appearance in either the Vijay Hazare Trophy or the Ranji Trophy. Notably, the wicketkeeper-batsman is out of the game following his horrible and terrible car crash on December 30, 2022. Following his fatal injuries, Pant missed the IPL 2023, the World Test Championship Final, the West Indies tour, the Ireland tour, the Asia Cup 2023, and the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

According to reports, the 26-year-old cricketer is still not fully recovered from the injuries, and he is set to miss India’s upcoming T20I series against Australia, which is slated to take place after the ODI World Cup 2023 at home. In addition, the middle-order batsman will be missing India’s upcoming tour of South Africa after the Australia series at home. Rohit Sharma and Co. will be facing the Proteas for three T20I series, three ODI series, and two Test matches.

However, the Indian Cricket Board has recently provided fresh updates on Rishabh Pant’s fitness. The officials reveal that the DC skipper is still in his early days of injury, and he needs more time to recover. In addition, the board officials say that he will first play domestic games to gain his confidence back in international cricket. However, the Board further revealed that one may witness him in the series against Afghanistan, but it still determines his fitness.

Rishabh Pant will have to go back to domestic cricket and gain the confidence back: Reports

“It’s still early days. It’s good that he has been batting in the nets. But he still needs some more time. He will have to go back to domestic cricket and gain the confidence back. Probably, if everything goes well, a return could be possible against Afghanistan. But again, it’s not certain yet,” a senior Indian Cricket Board official told Inside Sport.

However, the star cricketer has undergone successful surgery since his accident. The DC star made his first public appearance during IPL 2023. Notably, the right-handed batsman has frequently been seen at the NCA while practising in the nets. Pant celebrated his 26th birthday at the NCA. The clip has recently gone viral of his celebration with Axar Patel and Prithvi Shaw.
