Sandeep Lamichhane taken into police custody in relation to the rape accusation

In a major development, former Nepal skipper Sandeep Lamichhane has been apprehended by the authorities. Ahead of the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League 2022, a minor filed a rape case against him. Since then, the star player has pleaded innocence and shown faith in the judiciary. Meanwhile, after landing in Nepal, the local police apprehended Sandeep and will question him during the investigation.

Notably, the leg-spinner was issued a notice has been already issued from INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organization). The reason for that was his anonymity in patches after the registration of the case. Talking about the case, the girl has alleged that Lamichhane took her to various places on August 21 this year. She added that she was raped the same night.

On the other hand, the former Nepal skipper has assured the authorities of cooperating with the investigation. Before landing in Kathmandu, he took to Facebook to inform his fans and the media about the time he will land. He added that he is sure of getting justice and assured the fans of returning to the cricket ground.

“As per my sincere commitment to submit myself to the authority of Nepal, I am landing at 10:00 am from Qatar Airways in the Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu,” the former cricketer said in a Facebook post early on the morning of October 6.

“I am sure I will get justice and will return to the cricket ground soon to make the name and fame of my beloved country and I pray for a speedy trial. I will fully cooperate in all stages of the investigation and will fight a legal battle to prove my innocence. Let the justice prevail.”
