Bangalore head coach Sanjay Bangar has hinted that veteran South Africa batter AB de Villiers may be back in Bangalore jersey for the Indian T20 League 2022. De Villiers had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in November this year thus he will not be part of the playing group. Instead, De Villiers can take up the role of the batting coach.

While doing the commentary during the second Test between India and New Zealand, Aakash Chopra quizzed Bangar that when a batter like Rahul Dravid is the head coach of the team, what is the need to have a specialist batting coach. Currently, India has Vikram Rathour as a specialist batting coach.

Responding to Chopra, Bangar said that head coach has to focus on the overall performance of the team in addition to making team strategy thus every team needs a separate batting coach. He also said that many retired players are considering the roles of batting coach in the T20 Leagues.

“So the head coach doesn’t have much time and the batting coach especially works on the shortcomings of the players in batting. Hence, every team needs a batting coach apart from the head coach,” Bangar said

Meanwhile, Bangalore have to look out for a new skipper in the coming season as Virat Kohli has stepped down from his role. The franchise has retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj for next three seasons.
