Security tightens for 4th Test between India and England after threat from designated terrorist

Post an emphatic victory by 434 runs in the 3rd test, India will aim to seal the deal in the 4th Test in Ranchi and take an unassailable lead by 3-1. On the other hand, England will be desperate to make a comeback in the series after a humiliating loss and would like to prove that their ‘Bazball’ approach is here to stay.

However, amid all the buzz around the next match, a new threat has emerged over the 4th Test between India and England. The US-based Khalistan terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannum has issued a threat to disrupt the 4th Test match between India and England. The Test match is scheduled to be played at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.

Pannum has gone on to urge the banned CPI (Maoist) Group to disrupt and cancel the proceedings of the 4th Test match. This is not the first time when Pannum has issued such a threat to India as he has already given such threats in the past.

The police have lodged an FIR against Pannum and the Druwa police station under the IT Act and have started the investigation into this matter. Both the teams have reached Ranchi for the next test and the security has been heightened because of the threat scare on the match.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hatia, PK Mishra has addressed a press conference on this whole matter where he said, “Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hatia, P K Mishra, addressing the press on Tuesday, revealed, “Gurupatwant Singh Pannun has threatened the India and England teams to cancel the match in Ranchi. He also urged the CPI (Maoist) to create disturbance to cancel the match.”

Gurupatwant Pannu’s history with violence

Pannum has been on the radar of authorities since 2019, when India’s anti-terror agency, the NIA, started investigating him. Seizing his assets in Punjab in September 2023 was a big step to limit his power. But, his recent attempt to harm the India-England Test match shows one thing clear: people who use violence and extremism are still a danger.
