Bangladesh and Pakistan locked horns in the Super 12 game of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide. The game was otherwise supposed to be an almost dead rubber for both teams if not for the Netherlands beating South Africa. Meanwhile, the Dutch win opened the gates for both Asian teams to reach the semis. Meanwhile, after winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first on a used wicket.

Their decision looked to be proving right as they scored 70/1 in 10 overs, setting a launch pad for a strong finish. However, Shadab Khan’s two wickets in the 11th over changed the game for his side. One of them was Shakib Al Hasan‘s wicket which will go down as the most controversial dismissal in the tournament. Meanwhile, the Tigers were restricted to 127/8 at the end of their innings.

For the 2009 winners, Shaheen Afridi took four wickets while Shadab Khan took two. On the other hand, Haris Rauf and Iftikhar Ahmed took one each.

Pakistan qualifies for the semis slowly and steadily

In reply, the former champions had a slow and steady start. Skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan put together 57 runs in 10.3 overs. In the midst of this, Bangladesh also fielded poorly and missed quite a few chances and miss fielded. This eventually cost the team as they missed out on the opportunity of creating the pressure of chasing a target in a knockout game.

Eventually, the likes of Mohammad Haris and Shan Masood changed the tempo of the game set by Azam and Rizwan. Haris and Masood made sure that their side didn’t make a meal out of a regulation chase. They won the game by five wickets with 11 balls in hand. This means that Pakistan will play the first semifinal in Sydney against New Zealand. However, if Zimbabwe manages to beat India in the ongoing game, then Pakistan might get to play against England in the second semis in Adelaide.
