The Indian team has performed exceedingly well in each passing match of the ODI World Cup 2023 and has become the only team to have remained unbeaten in the tournament till now. The host nation has played five matches in the tournament and has won all five as they beat Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand at different venues in the country.
Recently, the Indian team defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in the 21st match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on 22 October. All the players contributed with the bat, ball and even on the field, but the best player who saved runs on the field as well as took a marvellous catch was India’s medal order batsman Shreyas Iyer.

The Indian Cricket Board and the team management’s unique way of awarding and motivating the players to perform better on the field by giving the best fielder of the match a medal has gone viral and the team management is consistently finding new ways after every match to award the best fielder. After the game against New Zealand, Shreyas Iyer was awarded the best fielder of the match medal. After the match, the team’s head coach Rahul Dravid gathered the team on the field to declare Shreyas Iyer as the winner of the medal by the Spiderman camera, which brought in his image of catching out New Zealand’s opening batsman Devon Conway and sent him back to the dugout for a duck.

Today the fielding wasn’t clinical. Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best fielders in the world. These things happen. We know that fielding is something that will decide a lot of things going forward. We love travelling and playing in different parts of the game”, said Rohit Sharma in the post-match ceremony on India’s fielding performance.
