Sourav Ganguly cautions fans to not get ahead of themselves on Dhruv Jurel amid ‘Next Dhoni’ claims

India registered their record 17th series win at home which is the most by any team but this series has garnered them praise from every corner. This home series looked upon as a serious challenge for this Indian team as England was coming in with their aggressive ‘Bazball’ approach and India on the other hand lacked the services of some of their key players which put them on the backfoot even before the start of the series.

But as this Indian team has displayed time and time again they have the potential to fight back from adverse situations. The Indian team after losing the 1st Test by 28 runs made a scintillating comeback to win the next three matches on the trot on the back of some sheer resilience and mesmerizing performance from their youngsters.

Youngsters shine for India at difficult times

Yashasvi Jaiswal who made his debut last year solidified his place in the team by amassing 655 runs in just 4 Tests and in such a short span he has become a player whose excellent batting now doesn’t surprise the fans as he is expected to do this given his calibre.

Sarfaraz Khan also made 2 half-centuries on his debut Test and Akash Deep who also made his debut in this series picked 3 wickets in his opening spell. But the debutant in the series who has impressed the most has been wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel. He played two match-winning knocks under pressure situations on a tricky Ranchi pitch.

Apart from his sound batting skills, his ability to soak in pressure to perform in crunch situations has impressed the fans the most. India’s legendary opening batter even went on to say that he could be the next MS Dhoni in the making.

Ganguly’s cautious fans to not get ahead of themselves on Jurel

India’s former captain also lauded Dhruv Jurel’s performance against England but at the same time also advised fans to not get ahead of themselves and make big claims about Dhruv Jurel prematurely.

Ganguly in an interview with RevSportz said, “Dhruv Jurel… what a Test match he had under pressure on a difficult wicket. There is huge talent and if you miss you and you go back down in the ladder, it will be very hard to come back. MS Dhoni is in a different league. Jurel has talent; there’s no doubt about it. But it took MS Dhoni 20 years to be MS Dhoni. Rather than 15 years for Dhoni to be Dhoni. So let him [Jurel] play. Jurel’s ability to play spin, pace and most importantly to perform under pressure. That’s what you look for in a youngster.”
