South Africa sweats over Tabraiz Shamsi’s fitness ahead of 20-20 WC opener against Australia

South Africa are sweating over the fitness of Tabraiz Shamsi ahead of their 20-20 World Cup opener against Australia. Shamsi had injured his groin in the warm-up game against Pakistan. As per reports, Shamsi will have to undergo a fitness test ahead of the match to claim a spot in the playing XI.

The chinaman bowler has been South Africa biggest weapon in the shortest format of the game. He is the number one T20I bowler and South Africa’s trump card in the showpiece event. It will be a massive setback for the Proteas if Shamsi does miss out against Australia.

South Africa are placed in a very tough group, alongside Australia, England and West Indies. Only the top two teams from the group will qualify for the playoff thus South Africa will be keen to get off to a winning start. Australia look the weakest team of the group given the form of their players and South Africa would like to pounce on the opportunity and take an early lead in the group.

Meanwhile, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma, who will be leading the team in his first global event, is also confident of his team’s chances.
