The T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to start on June 2, 2024, in the USA and West Indies. This time, 20 teams will get a chance to play in the World Cup. This World Cup is the 9th edition and will be played from June 2 to 29. Ahead of the World Cup, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj talks about how helpful the spinners can be throughout the tournament if the captains utilise them properly. The left-arm orthodox spinner is one of the most important players of the South African team.

As quoted by PTI, Maharaj said, “Spinners will play a crucial role in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Wickets are getting better and boundaries are getting shorter. There is much need for a spinner in the team to provide control and variety. Hopefully, these T20 platforms can give spinners an even bigger role to players coming to the international stage.”

Maharaj was phenomenal in the World Cup 2023 where he took 14 wickets in just nine matches with an economy of 4.37. He also claimed a four-wicket haul against New Zealand. According to him, a spinner has to be street-smart in order to dismiss a batter. Maharaj has yet to play in the IPL but has experience in other T20 tournaments.

‘Do your homework’ – Keshav Maharaj talks about helping youngsters

Keshav Maharaj, one of the best bowlers in South Africa, is willing to help the younger players who want to the art of finger spin. As per Maharaj, a bowler has to do his homework and be street-smart to take wickets. Also, teamwork is needed when it comes to bowling. The constant appreciation for each other helps bowlers a lot.

“You have to be street-smart to succeed in T20 as a left-arm spinner. Do your homework. There is a need for any left-arm, right arm or finger spinner to complement each other. If I can help the youngsters in this art of finger spin, I would like to believe that there will be some sort of motivation for them to continue with it and progress to a higher level in international cricket,” says Maharaj.
