Star Jamshedpur FC defender reveals how he was in close talks with East Bengal
The Indian Super League is on with the matches coming at a good pace and the football being high octane. The last match was played on December 3, 2022, which featured Bengaluru FC and Mohun Bagan FC. The match was played at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore. Mohun Bagan trumped Bengaluru FC 1-0.
Jamshedpur FC who won the title last year have not had the best of seasons this year they are 10th on the points table with one win and one loss from seven games. Their player Ricky Lallawmawma was a player who was in high demand when the summer transfer window was open. The man from Mizoram was watched like a Hawk by the other clubs from the ISL.
Lallawmawma has been an expirenced player in the Indian Football Circle
East Bengal and Odisha FC were the ones who tried everything to get him into their ranks, but it wasn’t to be as he kept his faith in Jamshedpur FC and signed an extended contract with them. Lallawmawma has been one of the most seasoned warhorses in the ISL. He has played for a lot of clubs in the ISL such as Mohun Bagan, ATK and DSK Shivajians. In a season in 2016-17, East Bengal put in all their efforts to get him in but he went to DSK Shivajians.
Right before the 2022-23 season started, Hira Mondal who was the main left-back at East Bengal FC changed bases and joined Bengaluru FC. East Bengal wanted someone to fill the void. They tried to get Ricky in and after falling in their repeated attempts, they went for Pritam Singh who had earlier played for Hyderabad FC.
Lallawmawma has shown his versatility on the football pitch. Although his favoured position has been playing as a left back he has shown that he can also slot in as a centre-back and as a winger if needed. His contract at Jamshedpur FC is scheduled to finish in 2024. Post that, there will be a huge interest in clubs across the ISL to secure his services.
