The Indian football team recently defeated the neighbours Bangladesh by a score of 1-0 in the 19th edition of the Asian games, 2023, which are being held in Hangzhou, China on 21 September, Thursday. The Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri scored a late penalty goal to lead the team towards victory in the league stage of the tournament.

After winning the game against Bangladesh, India now stands at the number three position on the points table behind China and Myanmar considering all three have three points each, but India has only one victory (after their loss against the host nation, China) while the others have two each. Sunil Chhetri scored the goal for India and the only goal of the match in the 85th minute, saving the game from going to the penalty shootouts.

In the highly humid weather, the men in blue covered huge distances in the ground to win the first match of the Asian Games, 2023.

Sunil Chhetri on winning the game against Bangladesh

Sunil Chhetri got candid on Star Sports after the team’s game against Bangladesh. Apparently, the team’s captain did not want to engage in any controversy while discussing what happened before the game and wanted to focus on the day’s game and the upcoming games of the tournament.

“I don’t want to get into trouble for talking about what happened before the game, especially after playing a (tough) game like this. Whatever happened before the game is behind us now, we are only thinking about today’s win and the next match”, said Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri after India won the match against Bangladesh.
