Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar heaps praise on star batter Dhruv Jurel and compares him with legendary cricketer MS Dhoni after his magnificent batting in the fourth Test match in Ranchi. Notably, the Men in Blue are 3-1 in the ongoing five-match Test series, and Dhruv Jurel played a crucial role in guiding India towards victory in the fourth Test match.

However, Sunil Gavaskar feels that Dhruv Jurel’s thinking and assessment abilities are just like those of MS Dhoni. The well-renowned cricket commentator also talks about the batting style of the star batter, where he hits sixes and rotates the strike equally. In addition, the former India skipper, however, accepted that no one can be MS Dhoni ever, but he gives that feel to him owing to his skillset.

“The way he thinks about the game, the way he assesses the situation and bats accordingly, gives me the MS Dhoni feels. He would hit a six in between and then look for ones and twos to rotate the strike. When MS Dhoni was of his age, he too had the same situation awareness. And that is why I said, Jurel is like MS Dhoni. No one can become MS Dhoni. There is only one MS Dhoni. But if Jurel can manage to do even some portion of the things Dhoni did then it would be great for Indian cricket,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Sports Tak.

Dhruv Jurel is definitely an option: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar feels that Dhruv Jurel can be an option in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to take place on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA. Moreover, the former batting legend feels that the wicketkeeper batter can bat at number 5 or 6 if he gets the chance to appear in the upcoming marquee event.

“He is definitely an option. A lot will depend on his IPL form. Form is very important. But the ease with which he is hitting sixes shows that he has the game for shorter formats. If he gets a chance then he will bat at No.5 or 6 only, as a finisher,” he added further.
