According to the reports, Suresh Raina and Ravi Shastri will join the commentary panel for the Indian T20 League. Raina went unsold during the Indian T20 League mega auction last month, although he was reported to join the Gujarat team earlier this month. At that time, Jason Roy had opted out of the cash-rich league, citing bio-bubble fatigue. However, the franchise opted for Afghanistan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz as replacement.

On the other hand, Ravi Shastri has completed his second stint as the head coach of the India team. His last assignment with the team was the T20 World Cup last year, where the Indian team finished outside of the semis. Shastri hasn’t done any sort of commentary stints from 2017 as he was appointed for the job. The former India cricketer’s contract was renewed in 2019.

Meanwhile, according to the sources, Raina will join the commentary panel as the latter has a massive fan following. Notably, when the former Chennai player went unsold, fans couldn’t keep calm and suggested that this might be the end of his career. On the other hand, Shastri has experience of around 25 years as a broadcaster.

“You all know that Raina won’t be a part of the IPL this time but we somehow wanted to link him with the tournament. He has a massive fan following and there is a reason why he is known as Mr IPL. As for Shastri, he was part of Star Sports English commentary team. But he didn’t commentate after the final of Champions Trophy in 2017 as he became India’s head coach,” an ITL source said while speaking to Jagran.

The tournament will begin on March 26.
