Team India is ready to take on South Africa in the first T20I on Sunday in Durban. Suryakumar Yadav faces his biggest test as he is gearing up to lead the Indian side in his first overseas series.

The absence of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya has put the 33-year-old into the spotlight. While there are doubts over the next full-time T20I skipper SKY has done well so far. Under his leadership, India beat Australia by a 4-1 margin in a recent series at home.

33-year-old Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is set to take on South Africa on Sunday. The first of three games will be played in Durban as the Indian team will want to play their best cricket in the series.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav speaks on leading Team India

Ahead of the series, SKY was speaking on a host of topics, one of which was his leadership role in T20I. Yadav while speaking to the media said “From a personal point of view, it (captaincy) is a big responsibility. I really enjoyed it in the last series (against Australia). I would love to do the same (winning) in the coming series in South Africa”

India’s skipper also stressed the need to win the T20I series in South Africa and to focus on the matches. “From the larger perspective, I feel we’ll see what comes ahead but for now let’s focus on the series”

Team India will play just 6 T20Is before the 2024 T20 World Cup in June next year. After the series against South Africa, India will host Afghanistan for a three-game series in January.

Addressing the issue SKY said “There are only limited T20s before the T20 WC. But then we play 14 league games in the IPL and players have already played a lot of games and they have a lot of experience under their belt. So, I don’t think there’ll be an issue when selecting the squad (for WC) because everyone knows their role well,”

When asked about the younger members of the side, SKY was high on praise about the younger. The Indian skipper also said he wanted his team to play fearless cricket and keep their attitudes the same. “Whatever happens if they do good or if they don’t get runs on the given day, the attitude remains the same.”
