Tennis Star Iga Swiatek To Donate Her Prize Money For Mental Health Cause
World Number One Tennis player from the Czech Republic, Iga Swiatek has pledged to donate her prize money from Ostrava Open to mental health causes. She played in the final of the tournament against her countrymate Barbora Krejcikova. In the title clash, the latter won 7-5, 6(4)-7, 3-6 in three hours and 16 minutes on October 9. After the game, Iga said that she played the tournament to raise a big amount of money for the cause.
The World Number One player added that she wants to spend awareness around mental health and let people know about the help they can get. Notably, the Czech Republic player opened up about her work with sports psychologist Daria Abramowicz in 2020. At that time, won her maiden French Open title. Last year, she donated to the cause for the first time during the Indian Wells Masters.
“I really wanted to play well here to have a big amount of money to donate … and I’m pretty happy that I could do that,” Swiatek said in her on-court interview.
“I really want to spread awareness and let people know that they can use the help if they need it, or help others if they have resources. I’m pretty happy to use my position that way.”

After the game, the runner-up of the Ostrava Open thanked the fans for their support during the final. She also congratulated Barbora for winning the tournament.
“Too emotional and too tired right now to express how challenging and unique today has been. I am so grateful…and I just want to say congrats to Barbora Krejcikova. What a battle, what a performance. So great that you are back,” Swiatek tweeted.
