‘The PCB requires clearance from….’ – Spokesperson from Pakistan Cricket Board spills the beans on Pakistan travelling to India for ODI World Cup 2023
The Apex Cricket Council finally announced the fixtures for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be played in India later this year, on Tuesday. Another talking point for the World Cup was majorly stationed around Pakistan visiting India for their games in the World Cup, which eventually had to happen because it was an Apex Cricket Council tournament.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that before confirming its participation in the World Cup, it must receive government approval. This comment was made following the Tuesday schedule announcement in Mumbai. It appears that the World Cup plan did not take the PCB’s demands and concerns into consideration.
“The PCB requires clearance from the Government of Pakistan for any tour to India, including the match venues,” said a spokesman for the Pakistan board in a statement following the release of the full schedule of the World Cup.
We are in communication with our government to seek guidance: PCB spokesperson
The official from PCB also said that the board will be seeking guidance from the government and then informing the event authority. The board even contacted the Apex cricket council and informed them about the situation as soon as the drafts were released as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“We are in communication with our government to seek guidance, and once we receive a response from them, we will update the Event Authority. This stance aligns with what we communicated to the apex board a couple of weeks ago when they shared the draft schedule with us and sought our feedback,” added the spokesman.
The cricket board of India, as well as PCB, have been involved in a dispute over the schedules of multi-national events, which even included the Asia Cup. Pakistan will commence their campaign by playing against Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad on October 6. The Cricket Control board from India, as well as the Apex Cricket Council, have made it very clear that in case if Pakistan tends to qualify for the semifinals, then their match will be played in Kolkata, regardless their opponent is India or any other team, whereas if it is not Pakistan, then India will be playing their semifinal match in Mumbai.
