Three people who can replace Brendon McCullum as Kolkata’s head coach
Brendon McCullum has taken up the position of England’s head coach in the longest format of the game. As a result, he has informed Kolkata’s team management and players that this will be his last season as their coach in the Indian T20 League. McCullum has been an excellent coach for the two-time champions. Under him, They made it to the Final last season. He will take over England’s position with the team after the Indian T20 League 2022 concludes. Here are the likely replacement prospects for McCullum in future seasons for Kolkata.
Daniel Vettori
Daniel Vettori, another former Kiwi player, can be a great replacement option for the two-time champions for the next season. Although the New Zealand-born is most known for his time as Bangalore’s head coach, Vettori had a successful tenure as Birmingham Phoenix’s assistant coach in the 2021 season of The Hundred. The team finished the league stage on top of the points table. The men in purple can consider him for the role next season.
Abhishek Nayar
For the past several years, Abhishek Nayar has served as Kolkata’s assistant coach. The former Indian all-rounder is a key member of the team’s management. He has seen some huge changes in the side over the years, and might be a good fit for the Shreyas Iyer-led team. Abhishek is also known for being a good coach with a strong technical grasp of the game. A head coach from India would also be ideal for the team as well.
Simon Katich
Simon Katich, a former Australian cricketer, has extensive experience in the Indian T20 League. Between 2019 to 2021, he was the Bangalore team’s head coach. Under his reign, the Bangalore team finished third in the points table. Unfortunately, they were unable to go through the Eliminator. Katich also worked as an assistant coach for the Kolkata team during the 2015 season. The men in purple may look to bring back a familiar face for the next season.
