Chennai Super Kings, the most successful team in the IPL, has had only one captain in the form of MS Dhoni. In all the 15 seasons of the IPL, Dhoni has captained the side. However, in some matches, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja have captained the team. Moreover, the CSK fans are against the idea of Dhoni leaving the team or the IPL. They expect him to continue playing and win trophies for their team which is practically not possible.
No matter how much MSD can extend, he will play for one more year. Since he just went through knee surgery, his longevity in the game is doubtful. As a captain, he has won five IPL trophies for CSK in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. Now that Dhoni might retire soon, CSK has to look for other options as to who can captain the team in the longer run.
Let’s look at the three players who can replace MS Dhoni as Chennai Super Kings captain.
3. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja is one of the obvious players who can become the next captain of CSK. The reason is his experience in the IPL. He played for CSK for more than a decade now and has improved his game a lot. He has also been the captain of the team in 2022 in seven matches. Thus, if Dhoni decides to retire, the team management might go for Jadeja as a captain.
