From January 16, the Australia Open 2023 will kick off with Men and Women players competing for the coveted title. Currently, the players are playing in the qualifying round with some of them ensuring their qualification. On the other hand, there are players who can win their maiden titles. After all, some of the legendary players have either retired or pulled out of the tournament.

Ashleigh Barty, who lifted the trophy 12 months ago, and Serena Williams have retired, while the 2019 and 2021 winner Naomi Osaka has pulled out. These scenarios give an opportunity to other players who haven’t won the title before. Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will have a look at three women players to watch out for.

1. Iga Swiatek

The 21-year-old dominated 2022 after the retirement of Barty. The former won eight WTA titles and became the first woman in six years to win two Grand Slams in the same season — at Roland Garros and New York. She also had a 37-match winning streak that ended in the third round at Wimbledon.

Ahead of the upcoming tournament, Swiatek began this year’s Australian Open build-up with three straight-sets victories in the United Cup. However, she lost to Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-2 in the semis. If Iga is looking to win the AO, she needs to overcome her issues in the knockout games.
