England is currently locking horns with Australia in the fifth and final Test match of the ongoing Ashes 2023. After the end of play on Day 3, England have a big advantage as they led the visitors by 377 runs with still one wicket remaining. Earlier, before the start of the last Test, Australia regained the Ashes 2023 as the fourth Test match of the series was washed out due to rain. They are currently leading the series 2-1.

Meanwhile, star England bowler, Stuart Broad announced after stumps on Day 3 that the fifth Test of the Ashes 2023 would be the last match of his international career. He recently became the second-fastest and fourth bowler overall to complete 600 wickets in the longest format of the game. At 37 years old, he will be concluding his career in Test cricket as the second-highest Test wicket-taker for England, with only his teammate James Anderson ahead of him.

I had been thinking about it for a couple of weeks: Stuart Broad

“Tomorrow or Monday will be my last game of cricket. It has been a wonderful ride. A huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and the England batch as much as I have. I am loving cricket as much as I ever had, it has been such a wonderful series to be a part of and I have always wanted to finish on the top. This series feels like one of the most enjoyable entertainment I’ve been a part of,” Broad was quoted as saying on Sky Sports Cricket after the third day’s play at the Oval on Saturday, July 29.

Broad claimed that he made the decision to retire at “about 8.30 pm last night” but he made up his mind of retiring from the game a few weeks back. He informed the Test skipper, Ben Stokes on Friday and to the rest of his teammates on Saturday. “I had been thinking about it for a couple of weeks. England vs Australia has been the pinnacle for me. I have loved the battles with Australia. I have got a love affair with Ashes and I wanted it to be my last bat and bowl. I told Stokesy last night, told the changing room this morning. It felt like the right time,” the right-arm speedster asserted.
