Twitter Reactions: Kolkata end five match losing streak after emphatic win over Rajasthan
Kolkata and Rajasthan squared off against each other in the 47th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The wicket was a slow one and assisted the slower bowlers gifting a low-scoring thriller in the process.
Shreyas Iyer won the toss and put Rajasthan to bat. On a slowish wicket, Rajasthan was looking for a steady start. But Devdutt Padikkal (2 off 5) did not last long being dismissed in the third over of the innings by Umesh Yadav. The skipper Sanju Samson walked out to bat and along with Jos Buttler stitched a partnership of 47 runs. Buttler’s stay was rather patchy and he was able to score just 22 runs off 25 deliveries. Tim Southee dismissed Buttler in the ninth over of the innings when Rajasthan’s score was 55 runs. Samson at the other end was going about his business steadily and along with Karun Nair (13 off 13 ), he formed another important partnership of 35 runs.
Samson played a captain’s knock scoring 54 runs off 49 deliveries on a pitch that was not easy to bat on. Shivam Mavi picked up his wicket in the 18th over of the innings. Riyan Parag (19 off 12) and Shimron Hetmyer (27 off 13) played fiery little cameos taking Rajasthan’s total to 152 runs in 20 overs. Tim Southee picked up 2 wickets for Kolkata but conceded 46 runs in his four overs, while Sunil Narine was the most economical of the bowlers conceding 19 runs in his four overs.
Kolkata opted for another new opening pair in search of a solid start. But this time also the start for them was weak. Aaron Finch (4 of 7) was dismissed early in the innings in the fourth over. The other opener of the team Baba Indrajith (15 of 16) also did not last long and was dismissed in the sixth over of the innings. Kolkata was struggling at 32 for two at this stage. This was the stage when Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana got together. They took on the Rajasthan spinners and the momentum of the match started to change. The duo stitched a partnership of 60 runs off 43 deliveries and brought Kolkata’s chase back on track. The partnership was broken in the 13th over of the innings when Shreyas Iyer (34 of 32) was dismissed by Trent Boult. Kolkata’s score at this stage was 92 for 3. After 15 overs Kolkata had 107 runs on the board for the loss of 3 wickets. The target for Kolkata at the stage was 46 runs off 30 balls at a required rate of 9.2. Nitish Rana was looking good out in the middle and with Russell still to come the balance of the match was shifted in favor of Kolkata.
Nitish Rana kept his composure for the rest of the chase while he got an able partner in Rinku Singh. Sigh played a dynamic, counter attacking knock releasing the pressure off Rana. His aggressive cameo prevented any further slip ups in the chase. The duo took Kolkata to a seven wickets win in the last over of the match. Nitish Rana stayed unbeaten on 48 off 37 balls , while Rinku Singh was not out at 42 off 23 balls. Kolkata won their fourth of 10 matches in the tournament, while Rajasthan faced their second consecutive defeat.

Rinku's knocks in the last 2 games didn't get enough recognition as KKR lost both matches. Important to note here that his 23(16) vs DC came after he got demoted to No.8.
Glad that he is making all his opportunities count after the superb SMAT20 season he had with UP.#KKRvsRR
